It seems like every day, there is more news about Angry Birds taking over the world. In just the past month, there have been stories hitting the internet about an Angry Birds carnival game in China, an Angry Birds board game and even Angry Birds coming to Windows Phone 7 in a few months. While I will admit to being as addicted to Angry Birds as countless millions of others, I think things are going too far. If the board game and carnival game weren’t bad enough, an Angry Birds cartoon is on the way.
According to the New York Post, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed told the television site C21mediat.net that “We have been looking at [TV] for quite a while, and that is definitely one of my personal big focus areas right now – to work on broadcast content for ‘Angry Birds.’” No news about what network on tv the show will air or if it will air on the web or both tv and the web. Supposedly the show is ready for production so we could see it as soon as later this year. While I can see some potential for Angry Birds as a cartoon, it just feels like they are milking the concept for every penny they can at this point. I fear that they are trying to milk the franchise too quickly and people will tire of everything Angry Birds very soon. A lot can be said for striking while the iron is hot but I am a firm believer in the idea that less is more.
Will you be interested in watching an Angry Birds cartoon? Do you care about Angry Birds passed the game itself? Do you think Rovio should be pushing the Angry Birds franchise so hard this soon? Let us know in the comments!
