By now, I am sure that many of you are quite familiar with the fact that organizations such as the RIAA, MPAA would gladly do anything to censor the internet and stop people from accessing sites such as The Pirate Bay, ISOHUNT, Wikileaks and thousands of other sites. Thanks to their efforts, this week could be the biggest hurdle the free and open internet has ever faced.
On Thursday, the first vote will occur in the US for an internet blacklist. This bill would give the Attorney General the power to require all the ISPs in the US to block any site it wants to put on the blacklist. Considering how much pull groups like the RIAA have with the Attorney General’s office (many of the lawyers now working at the attorney general’s office used to work for the RIAA), if this bill passes, you can bet money on the fact that your favorite P2P sites such as the Pirate Bay will be blocked. With the number of headaches that Wikileaks has caused the Pentagon, you can bet they will find themselves on that list as well. There really so no end to the sites they could block.
This is why we need your help! There is a movement to stop the internet blacklist bill and they need your help! They are looking for as many people to sign their petition against it as possible. They have already collected over 250,000 signatures and they are hoping to break 300,000 by the time the vote is taken on Thursday. They also need people to call and write their congressmen and tell them how crucial it is not to pass this horrible piece of legislation. The RIAA is already ahead of us in having their employees calling as regular citizens and trying to persuade their elected officials to vote for the bill so we really need to rally and start calling if we are going to fight this!
Fight this attempt at censorship and let your elected officials know how you feel about this horrible idea!
