With the new season of Doctor Who just a couple of days away, I thought now would be the perfect time to post this incredible TARDIS and Sonic Screwdriver cake that I came across this morning.  While I have posted a bunch of TARDIS cakes in the past (just search for ‘TARDIS cake’ on the right), this is the only one I can recall seeing that lights up and has a Sonic Screwdriver with it.  That said, my memory is pretty much crap these days and after thousands of posts, I often find myself completely forgetting about old posts so I could be wrong about that.

This TARDIS and Sonic Screwdriver birthday cake was created by Custom Cake Designs.  I already mentioned the light on top of the cake lights up with an LED light but for those curious, the 11th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver is made of sugar paste.

I typically get strange looks when I tell people that should I ever get married, I want a Klingon wedding rather than a traditional wedding but after seeing this Stargate wedding arch replacement, I think I would be ok with a Stargate wedding too.  However, combining both doesn’t sound too bad either…

Anyway, instead of having a traditional wedding arch, Ian Milward decided to build and get married in front of a Stargate.  Not only is the 12′ Stargate incredibly detailed and impressive, the story to go along with it is just as amazing.  Apparently he met his future wife while they both worked at a lumber and hardware store and they bonded over their mutual love of Stargate.  At one point they were watching the episode where Jack and Sam get married in front of the Stargate and his future wife thought that was a really cool idea so when the time came some five years later, he remembered the idea and built a Stargate to get married in front of.

I’d say the weeks of effort to build this was absolutely worth it and I wish the happy couple a lifetime of happiness!  My only question is where do you put something like this after the wedding?  Do you rent it out for other Stargate fans or perhaps put it around the front door of your house to impress your guests?  I can think of a ton of cool uses for something like this although the size would be a bit of a pain I would think.

Judging by comments in the past and the activity on our Facebook page, I’m pretty sure most all of the regular Global Geek News readers are Doctor Who fans.  So, I thought it only made sense to post the trailer for the upcoming 9th season of Doctor Who which was shown at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday!  Doctor Who returns on September 19, 2015!

What excites you most about the new trailer?  Do you have any predictions for the new season?  Let me know in the comments below!

I am obsessed with wearing slippers around the house.  I find regular shoes to be too heavy and stiff to comfortably wear while lounging around the house but my feet do tend to get cold so I have turned to slippers and they are wonderful!  For the past several years, I have worn some sheep’s wool slippers or something like that but I am on my last pair and don’t expect to be given another pair so I will soon be looking for some new slippers and I think I have found the perfect ones.

If you are a Doctor Who fan like I am, you will love lounging around the house watching Doctor Who in these fantastic TARDIS slippers!  Now that winter is quickly approaching, your feet are going to start getting really cold and you need a nice pair of slippers like these to keep them warm!  And what is better than watching the Doctor Who Christmas Special or even the 50th anniversary special while curled up on the couch in a TARDIS snuggie and wearing some TARDIS slippers?  Well, if you want a TARDIS snuggie, you will have to make your own but you can at least buy the slippers.

The awesome Whovians over at ThinkGeek are selling these really cool Doctor Who TARDIS slippers for just $19.99 (this is an affiliate link so we get credit for telling you about these awesome slippers which goes toward helping us keep the lights on)!  They are available in a range of sizes so assuming you don’t have some clown feet or something, you should be able to wear a pair of these.  However, these might even be bigger on the inside so that wouldn’t be a problem but I wouldn’t count on it.

Whether you want a pair of these for yourself or you are looking for a Christmas gift for that Whovian in your life, you need to order these Doctor Who slippers!

One of my favorite things to check out at my local state fair the giant sand sculptures that they often have (I don’t think they have had them the last couple of years for some reason).  Each year there is a different theme and they work on it throughout the fair so you can see them create this amazingly detailed sand sculpture that is easily over ten feet tall.  Unfortunately, while they have done everything from dinosaurs to sports, they have never done a Doctor Who sand sculpture and after seeing the one below, I really hope they do someday.

This fantastic 50th anniversary Doctor Who sand sculpture featuring the 11th Doctor, some Daleks, the TARDIS, a couple of Cybermen and a couple of Weeping Angels can be seen at the Sandworld sand sculpture festival in the UK.  The festival runs until November 3rd so you still have some time to go check this out in person if you happen to be in the UK between now and then.

I wish they would have sand sculpting festivals around here because sand sculptures are cool!

It amazes me that in around 2,800 posts I have written on Global Geek News over the past half dozen years or so, only once have I featured a Stargate cake.  I’ve posted hundreds of other cakes ranging from Star Trek and Star Wars to Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda but I’ve only posted one really cool Stargate cake in the past.  Well, it is time that changes and I share another incredible Stargate cake I have stumbled across.

This incredible Stargate birthday cake features a very realistic looking Stargate that even has all of the symbols on it.  It appears to have been created by a Lina DeMorais and I’d say she did one heck of a job!  Something tells me that Samantha’s birthday was quite epic.

I am curious to know how long it took to get that level of detail on the Stargate and most importantly, I wonder if the cake tasted as good as it looks?  I wish somebody would make cakes like these for my friends because I would love to have a piece of Stargate.
