Archives For Science Fiction

First of all, my apologies for not posting this yesterday when it was May 4th, but I didn’t see this until it was too late.  However, since it is Revenge of the 5th, I’m still going to post this video.  I would have posted it no matter what day because it is simply hilarious but at least it works out that it is at least day two of Star Wars Day.

This video features Tim Russ, best known as Lt. Commander Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager explaining Star Wars Day.  To say that he gets it wrong would be a huge understatement.  I won’t spoil anything but I will say that this video is so funny, it might not be a bad idea to have an extra pair of pants around because you might just pee them.  Better yet, just watch it on the toilet or in the shower so cleaning up the mess will be easier.  That would be the logical thing to do!

Star Wars Day is my favorite unofficial holiday right next to Black Friday.  However, since I am working today, I can’t say I really get to celebrate it the proper way with a Star Wars marathon.  However, I am still sporting my favorite Star Wars / Legend of Zelda crossover t-shirt which features Link dressed as Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 as Navi and says “The (Triforce symbol) is strong with this one.

How are you celebrating Star Wars day?  A movie marathon?  A Star Wars gaming binge?  Just wearing a t-shirt like me?  Let me know in the comments below!  I would love to hear how you plan to celebrate today!

In case you weren’t already excited enough for the new Star Wars movie, a second teaser trailer has been released!  There isn’t much here on plot details but still enough that you may need a change of pants by the time you are done watching it.

Check out the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments!

After wearing the same God of War hat for nearly two years (same design, 3 different hats), I’ve decided that its time to make a change.  However, I still want to stick with the whole warrior idea so when I found this really cool Klingon hat, I knew it had to be my next hat.  I’ve always wanted a Star Trek hat but I’ve never found a design I really like until now.

The amazing folks over at ThinkGeek are selling this sweet Klingon hat for $24.99!  As for the size, it is adjustable with a back hook-and-loop strap.  While I will admit that is more than I typically care to spend for a hat, when combined with a little something else, they have a nice sale going on right now that really helps with the price.  If you use the code ‘BIGRED’ at checkout through Wednesday (4/15/2015), you can save 20% off an order of $50+, 25% off an order of $100+ or 30% off an order of $150+!  If you are looking to pick up some geeky gear at a nice discount, now is the time to do it!

Much to the dislike of my bathroom scale, I have been eating perhaps more than my fair share of cookies lately.  I just can’t seem to help myself so I just grab a handful of them whenever I see somebody have them sitting out.  However, its probably a good thing that nobody has had cookies as awesome as these Star Trek and Doctor Who cookies otherwise I would probably take all of them.

These incredible looking Doctor Who and Star Trek cookies were created by Mallory Mae from Butterwinks.  If you are interested in finding out how she made this cookies and how you can make your own, she has an online course called Piping Cookies That Pop on Craftsy.

These cookies are so well done, I honestly don’t think I can pick a favorite!  The Kirk, Spock and Uhura cookies have an adorable cartoony look to them while the Doctor Who cookies are just plain awesome, especially the Dalek and TARDIS.  Which cookie is your favorite?

With all of the facts about myself that I have shared over the years on here, I think at least the long time readers among you have a pretty good idea of who I am and the things I enjoy.  However, there is one love that I don’t think I have ever mentioned on here and that is my love of the symphony!  I suppose I can blame that on having a great Fine Arts teacher in middle school but for the past couple of years, I have had a subscription to a nearby orchestra where I usually spend at least one Saturday night a month during their season.  I am especially excited for this month because I actually have two shows to go to!

After the symphony I go to announced their new season a couple of weeks ago, I plan on changing my subscription next year to a different series because next season one of their other series will have a Star Wars symphony and a Bugs Bunny symphony!  How could I pass that up?!

Anyway, speaking of the symphony, I just came across this amazing video of an orchestra in Prague performing the theme music from Ghostbusters and it is amazing!  I love how into it the director is and how he gets the crowd involved.  I wish he was the conductor at the symphony I attend!
