Archives For Cool pictures

Have you ever been wandering around Hyrule and suddenly ask yourself “I wonder how much Hyrule Castle would cost if it was real and I could buy it?”  Neither have I but apparently it occurred to somebody otherwise the inforgraphic below wouldn’t exist.

The folks at the real estate blog Movoto decided to figure out just how much Hyrule Castle from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time would be worth on today’s market so they did a ton of research and ended up producing this neat inforgraphic on the castle’s value.

I’ve always thought it would be kind of cool to own a castle assuming it was modernized to include geeky necessities like ethernet jacks in every room and modern plumbing but judging by the price of Hyrule Castle, I am pretty sure that is one dream that has no hope of becoming reality.  I guess I will just have to live vicariously through Princess Zelda because unless I win the lottery or sell this blog for a billion dollars, I will never get to live in a castle.

If there is one thing I don’t eat near enough of, it would be cupcakes (although my pants might disagree since I need to lose weight rather than gain it).  It is probably a good thing there are rarely ever any around because I would eat them all and you would need a forklift just to get me out of bed.

Well, speaking of those delicious baked goods known as cupcakes, I have stumbled across some rather fantastic looking Doctor Who cupcakes.

Unfortunately, I don’t know who made these cool Doctor Who cupcakes that feature the TARDIS, a Dalek, the Doctor Who logo and an infinity symbol but whoever made them did a great job.  If you know who made them, please let us know in the comments below so we can give them credit for their amazing work!

Must not go to the store and buy cupcakes…must not go to the store and buy cupcakes…must not go to the store and buy cupcakes…  Ok, I think the urge has passed.

Crap!  I just looked at the cupcakes again.  Where are my car keys?

Nothing makes me feel older than when video games I grew up playing as a kid hit milestone anniversaries.  A few days ago on the Global Geek News Facebook page, I posted a comparison of the original character in Wolfenstein and the same character from the upcoming Wolfenstein: New Order game and it is amazing how far video game graphics have come come in the last 20 years.  While that made me feel old, it didn’t make me feel near as old as the treasure below.

Console mod enthusiast platinumfungi, the same guy that created the awesome Legend of Zelda NES console mod I posted about last year is back at it again with a Mega Man NES console mod!

Since this year is the 25th anniversary of Mega Man, platinumfungi decided to create this awesome Mega Man NES.  Apparently with the exception of the painting, he did all of this himself with simple hand tools, no professional cutting or anything.  Not only does it look cool, it is fully functional too!

Apparently he lost track of how long it took to make but I would say it was definitely worth every minute of effort spent on it.  I really wish it was for sale because I would love to own it.  I love how it even lights up!

On Friday’s post about the father and son that created an arcade in their basement, I mentioned that it has been a dream of mine for a while to turn my basement into an arcade.  Well, while I may not have the funds to do something like that, I could probably afford to build an arcade cabinet like the one below but I don’t know if I could make something look quite as cool.

Reddit user mystery_smelly_feet built this awesome Nintendo themed arcade cabinet.  It took him two months (mostly working on weekends) and around $2,000 to build but I’d say it was worth it.  As far as the specs go for the PC that powers this cool Nintendo arcade cabinet, it uses a 3.2 GHz Intel i5 processor, 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 660, and a 2 TB HDD.  A pretty good gaming rig even if it wasn’t in an arcade cabinet!  And of course the games themselves run on various emulators.

This has me thinking that when I retire the gaming computer I use now, I might use it to power an arcade cabinet.  Thanks to mystery_smelly_feet, I have an idea of how to build one now because you can find more pictures including pictures of its construction at the source link below.

Unlike many gamers, I never played much Sim City growing up.  I think I played a little bit of it on the SNES and about a year ago, I played it a bit on my iPad but I’ve never really got into the Sim City games (I love The Sims though).  I wouldn’t mind giving the newer versions a shot but with the disaster that is the latest Sim City, it has pretty much killed any interest I have in trying the games again.  However, for those who are playing the new Sim City and enjoying it, why not Zoidberg?

Reddit user KugelBlitz314 decided to combine their enjoyment of Sim City with their love for Futurama and create a city laid out in the outline of Zoidberg and Bender.  I’d say it turned out looking pretty cool.
It almost makes me want to buy the game.  Almost, but not quite.

The only way I would play it is if I was given a copy and even then I’m not sure I would want to mess with it because I hate Origin.  Maybe if it shows up on Steam someday, I would consider buying it.
Until then, I will just watch Futurama.

For a couple of years now I have been kicking around the idea of converting my basement into my own private arcade so I can relive my childhood whenever I feel like it.  Unfortunately, there are a couple of problems with that dream such as I need to win the lottery first and I need to find somewhere else to put all of the crap that I currently have stored in the basement.  In reality, my basement is a little small for doing anything too impressive with but I’d be happy with just a couple of pinball machines and arcade cabinets.

Well, one father and son duo are living my dream and have created an absolutely amazing arcade in their basement.

Reddit user mertzlufft posted a number of pictures of the incredible arcade he built in his basement with his dad.  From what I can tell from the pictures, the arcade is called the Vintage Vault Arcade and Gameroom.  I have to say I am impressed for several reasons.  First of all, I am very envious of somebody with a basement that is this big because square footage wise, that looks to be about equal to my entire house.  Second, I am impressed by all of the machines they have and how much work they put into this arcade that they even have a bar in it!

There was no mention of how much this cost to build or what the monthly electricity bill is but I bet both amounts are pretty large.

However, there is one criticism I have of this amazing basement arcade.  Where is the air hockey table?!  How can you have an arcade without an air hockey table?!  That just doesn’t seem right!
