It seems pretty hard to find people that are truly inspired to achieve something greater these days when everybody is worried about things like the economy, job market, education and the list goes on and on.  However, have you ever stopped to ask yourself why we seem to be going backwards while countries like China seem to be about to shoot right passed us?

Well, in the 28th National Space Symposium keynote that is well worth your time to watch in the video below (it really starts at about 6 minutes and runs for about an hour), Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson suggests that our lack of motivation and inspiration is because we have stopped trying to expand man’s presence in space and that it can all be fixed by simply doubling NASA’s budget to $.01 on the tax dollar.  He proposes an extremely compelling argument that I completely agree with and I find the speech to be one of the best speeches I have ever heard so please watch it below (40 min of speech and 20 min of Q&A)!

Although I don’t have the rhythm necessary to play an instrument, I am always fascinated when I see that a musician has gone above and beyond to customize their instrument of choice.  In the past, I have posted numerous Millennium Falcon guitars and even a Halo guitar, but this is the first time I have ever come across a customized guitar and amp!  Unfortunately, I’m not sure who the proud owner or creator of this amazing Super Mario Bros guitar and question block amp is, but it is one of the better looking custom guitars I have seen!  The guitar itself is perhaps the best looking part of this picture but there is just something really cute about using Yoshi, Mario and Luigi heads as the knobs for the amp.

Whenever I see an amazing console mod it makes me absolutely giddy.  I may not have the skills required to do any modding behind putting a custom faceplate on my PSP, but I can always dream of owning one of the amazing console mods that I stumble across.  In this case, I would kill to have this absolutely amazing Assassin’s Creed PlayStation 3 console mod.  Of all the video game console mods I have seen, this is likely my all time favorite and definitely the only one I have seen with a sword sticking out of the top!

The only school I ever attended that had lockers was middle school, but unfortunately we weren’t allowed to do any kind of decoration to the lockers.  Well, it seems some lucky students go to a school that is cool enough to let the students paint up the lockers however they like so three of the students apparently got together and painted their lockers to look like the TARDIS.  This is the awesome stuff that happens when you let students be themselves and express themselves instead of trying to make them hide their individuality with school uniforms and garbage that tries to condition them to be mindless drones rather than individuals.  Thumbs up to this school!

Just over a year ago, I posted an awesome and fully functional NES controller coffee table expecting to never see another one but it looks like somebody decided to do something similar but rather than painting it up to look like a 100% real NES controller, this awesome NES controller coffee table has more of a wood look to it.  This awesome and functional (when the glass is removed) NES controller coffee table is made from maple, mahogany and walnut with dovetail joinery and mid century modern legs.  Etsy seller TheBohemianWorkbench is selling this NES controller coffee table for $3,500 for those with some money that is burning a hole in their pocket.

It seems like every Star Wars fan wants to have a Millennium Falcon cake at some point in their life because this is the sixth Millennium Falcon cake I have posted in the past year or so.  This cake might not be as impressive as the Millennium Falcon wedding cake I posted last year at least as far as realism goes, but this is definitely one of the better color jobs that I have seen on a Millennium Falcon cake.  This cake was made by For The Love of Cake for somebody named Paul’s 40th birthday and I would say it was a happy birthday indeed!
