The popular car maker BMW is trying a new type of advertising by burning their company logo into the eyes of people who watch the ad. The ad and an explanation of how it is done is below but essentially they blast the BMW logo at movie goers with a bright light so that when they close their eyes, they still see the BMW logo. This is essentially the same thing that happens when you accidentally glance at the sun and when you go to close your eyes, you see a disk shape discolored region.
According to BMW, this is a way for them to get their name in the heads of people in a more literal way than ever before and with a method that people have never seen. Seems like an interesting idea and I am sure it will work at increasing their brand recognition but I’m not convinced this is a good idea. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see something like this accidentally cause a seizure or something and end up with BMW having to defend themselves against a big lawsuit.
